How to Play as the Nocturne

Look human until the vial is empty. Then the lights belong to you — as long as nobody hatches.

How to Play Nocturne

The hidden role is not a deathmatch skin. Official copy says it plainly: drink the serum without being seen, transform when the lights go out, devour everyone, then lie and vote out the innocent. You win only if no Survivor escapes. One hatch and your highlight reel is a loss. This page is the monster loop. Kit pages live under players. Rankings live on the tier list.

The two faces

In the light you are a Survivor. Touch a breaker. Loot something. Walk past vials once like you are checking, not camping. Players who only orbit serum get called before they ever transform. The serum guide is required reading even if you think you already know how to click a bottle.

In the dark you are the mode. Blackouts and gas are your tempo. Do not waste them posing. Isolated targets, noisy looters, and people who turned back for “one more box” are the queue. When the lights return, you put the mask on again. The best Nocturnes look exhausted and helpful, not smug.

Two cycles means you do not have an infinite night. If the first blackout is a blank, the second has to be a wipe or a vote. Greed is how hatches happen.

Starter trio

Public materials and the Jack of All Trades badge lock three names as the starters you will actually grind: Nightweaver, Prototype, and Wraith. A widely watched early-access showcase walks a win on each in that order. Use it as motion reference, not as a numbers patch.

  • Nightweaver — spider-coded presence, high fear factor in close spaces, the name people remember after a voice line.
  • Prototype — the experimental body, mid-showcase, the “unfinished serum” read.
  • Wraith — the closer of the starter set, built for players who like disappearing between rooms.

Wendigo (N021) is a later ID from official art, not a reason to skip the badge trio. Win ten games on each starter before you obsess over the antlered poster monster.

Social phase: how to vote innocents without looking thirsty

You are instructed to deceive. Do it like a teammate.

  • Offer one concrete (fake or bent) observation, not a speech. “They never touched power” works when that person actually rotated late. “They are sus” works on nobody.
  • Vote with the room when the room is already wrong. Riding a bad wagon is cleaner than being the loud first accuser every round.
  • Do not defend yourself too well. Perfect alibis are a tell. A short “I was on the second box” is enough.
  • If a Survivor is about to find your drink animation, they are the priority vote, even if they are also the best breaker. A living witness is worse than a slightly longer blackout.

Survivors are reading the same tells you are hiding. Read how to survive so you know what “good” looks like, then counterfeit it.

Closing the hatch

The hatch is your loss condition. Treat it like a boss prop.

  • If two Survivors remain, do not tunnel the wounded one if the healthy one is walking toward extract.
  • If you are still undrunk in cycle two, you are late. A human-form Nocturne cannot out-simulate a coordinated escape forever.
  • After a kill, look at the clock of the cycle, not the body. Posing on corpses is how people slip out.

Map language from the Ruined Cathedral showcase matters here: long red halls and cluttered corners change both drink spots and chase routes. Learn one map’s corners and your night form suddenly looks twice as fast.

Account grind around the role

Redeem codes for Runes, then spend them on the kit you are badge-farming, not on cosmetics you will ignore. Check updates after studio patches so you are not practising a nerfed opener. Controls still matter — missed interactions in human form are how people catch you standing on a vial doing nothing.

Scripts that reveal roles skip the entire design. They also risk the account. If you came here for that, read the warning on the scripts hub and then play the game you queued for.

Play human until the bottle is empty. Play monster until the lobby is quiet. If a single Survivor still hears the hatch, you did not finish the trial.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How does the Nocturne win?

Eliminate every Survivor before anyone uses the hatch. One escape is a Survivor win even if you secured multiple downs.

When should I drink the serum?

When nobody has a sightline. Corners, room transitions, and the edge of a blackout beat mid-room sips. Full notes in the serum guide.

Which starter should I learn first?

Any of Nightweaver, Prototype, or Wraith. The badge wants ten wins on each. Use the tier list if you want a current order.

Is Wendigo a starter?

No. Official posts labelled Wendigo as N021. Starters for the Jack of All Trades badge are Nightweaver, Prototype, and Wraith.
